Amok - Atoms for Peace

[15/03/22]

Atoms for peace is Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's side-project, a supergroup consisting of himself, Radiohead producer Nigel Goldrich, RHCP bassist Flea, session musicians Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco. Their first and only album has this very experimental rock sound that I have come to favor.

The very first track "Before Your Very Eyes" immediately places you in the middle of a quick tune followed by Yorke's iconic falsetto likewise, the next track "Default" begins with a glitch sound effect which is echoed throughout the song.

The album has a strong electronic influence in it beginning with "Ingenue" and subsequent tracks. The sound gets more complex as one moves on to subsequent tracks. All of the group members' contributions are significant and are prominently distributed throughout.

Each track is greatly different than the others but oddly enough, they don't feel out of place in this setlist. While I was familiar with a lot of Radiohead' and Thom York's solo discography- this is a whole different league altogether. Unfortunately, this is the only album they have done so far, but it sure did introduce me to new sounds.
